Population Matters has put together a very thought provoking collection of quotations expressing concern over human over-population from a wide variety of sources over many centuries. They demonstrate that this is not a new concern, although some may argue that early concerns were probably unfounded. It is truly amazing that with so many influential people alive at present who apparently have clear and strong views, the World at large seems remarkably unconcerned, and in particular the Worlds governments.
Here is just one very concise example:
Gore Vidal, writer (lived 1925 – 2012)
“Think of the Earth as a living organism that is being attacked by billions of bacteria whose numbers double every 40 years. Either the host dies, or the virus dies, or both die.”
